SHOPLIFTING

Date Published: 10/08/2012

On 29th July 2012 PCSO Barrie Jones visited the Co-op in Glynneath with regards to a possible shoplifting incident on the 25th. CCTV was viewed in the company of the Manager and a plump female was seen in the company of an elderly gentleman who was carrying a shopping bag, take an item from one of the shelves and directly place it into the shopping bag. A few seconds later the female is again seen selecting an item from a stand and they both walk out without making any effort to pay. When the Manager was asked to trace them entering the store, it transpired that they had also taken bottles of spirits.

In all, when further CCTV investigation was carried out, these two were responsible for shoplifting at this store a further 3 times. When still images of the female and elderly gent were circulated to other sectors, they were identified by officers from Treorchy. On 3rd August 2012 PCSO Barrie Jones met Treorchy officers at a location on the A4061 to hand them the CCTV evidence from the Co-op. These people have since been charged with the shoplifting offences carried out at Glynneath and other offences in the Treorchy area. They are to appear in court to answer to these charges.
