End of coaling in the Amman Valley
Date Published: 23/07/2012
Opencast mining in Tairgwaith produces around 300,000 tons of coal per year and has been ongoing for some 50yrs.
The opencast mining is coming to an end in the next 4 to 5 years. Restoration of the landscape will then begin but the communities of Gwaun Cae Gurwen, Cwmgors,
Lower Brynamman, Tairgwaith and Cwmllynfell all have a vested interest in the restoration.
The villages are one of the gateways to the
Brecon
Beacons
National Park and the villages surrounding the opencast have a say in what they want in the regeneration to benefit them and their communities for the future.
An exhibition is being held in the Black Mountain Centre in
Upper Brynamman on the 22nd of August; do not miss this opportunity to put your views to the consultants present to achieve what you want.
