Olympic Football Match Success!!
Date Published: 27/07/2012
The eyes of the world were certainly on Cardiff Wednesday as the city played host to the first sporting action of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
And just like Great Britain's women football team, the force has proved to be real winners, having ensured a safe and secure event for the crowds that flocked to the city.
The streets were flooded with football families who not only soaked up the sun, but also the carnival atmosphere that Cardiff was awash with. Visitors to the city were treated to street entertainment including tennis, athletics and cricket.
Policing of the event was hailed a success and we have some fantastic images of the day, which we’ll be sharing with you soon.
The Force had some great feedback from the crowds, some of which was sent via Twitter:
GreatSociety64 good work by @swpolice as Olympic Games begin. One of St Mary’s Street dancing policemen chatted to my son who was thrilled.
