Date Published: 01/05/2012

A burglar from Maesteg has been sentenced to three years in prison following his arrest in connection with a creeper burglary in the area.

David John Darkes, 33, was convicted at Cardiff Crown Court last Thursday (April 26th) in relation to the burglary which occurred on Heol Faen, Maesteg, in the early hours of Saturday 3rd December 2011.

Items stolen from the house included a handbag containing £1360 in cash, £220 in vouchers and two mobile phones.

Darkes was arrested and charged after stolen property was discovered in a nearby house.

Maesteg Local Policing Inspector Steve Rees said : “I am very pleased that we have been able to bring the man responsible for this burglary to justice.

“We can lock up thieves, but we need our communities to lock them out. Whenever you go out or before you go to bed, make sure that you check all windows are securely closed and doors are locked.

“With householders’ assistance in ensuring that their premises are secure we can reduce crime in Maesteg even further, so that our area is a safer place for everyone.”
