Canton police putting the brakes on bike theft

MORE than 20 suspected stolen bikes, frames and parts have today been seized by the Canton Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The team acted on information received from the community that two local youths were involved in bike thefts in Canton and that the bikes were being stored in a back garden.

A search warrant was carried out at an address in the Sloper Road area this morning resulting in the recovery of two bikes, which had been stolen from a vehicle at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday, July 28, along with numerous other bikes, frames and bike parts whose owners are currently unknown.

Acting Police Sergeant Gerallt Hughes said: “An increasing number of people are choosing to use bikes to get around the city but unfortunately they are popular targets for thieves particularly when they have been left either insecure or secured with a poor quality lock.
“We appreciate that having your bike stolen is upsetting, expensive and an inconvenience and therefore we would very much like to reunite the bikes found today with their rightful owners.

“There are serial numbers for most bikes therefore if any potential victim could have their serial numbers to hand when they contact us.”
Three boys aged 14, 15 and 17 were arrested in connection with the stolen bikes.

Anyone who thinks the bikes or parts belong to them is asked to contact Pcso Mark Hallett on 07805 301 334 or Sergeant Gerallt Hughes on 0758 400 4567.
