Cardiff on Saturday 14th April completed the Marathon Des Sables known as the toughest foot race on earth by running 150 miles through the
Sahara
Desert carrying his kit and food for the 7 days duration and raising over £4000 for Facing Africa NOMA.
What is facing Africa NOMA? NOMA (cancrum oris) is an acute and ravaging gangrenous infection affecting the face. The victims of NOMA are mainly children under the age of 6, caught in a vicious circle of extreme poverty and chronic malnutrition.
Facing Africa NOMA provides funds so teams of Voluntary surgeons from the
UK,
Germany and
Holland can visit
Nigeria and
Ethiopia, to perform reconstruction surgery on the victims of the disease NOMA, and the acquisition of related equipment for hospitals in
Addis Ababa (
Ethiopia) and Sokoto.
