OPERATION 14000 NETS 36 CRIMINALS IN DAY OF ACTION

A total 36 arrests were made across Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan on Monday in the first day of a four day operation running across every division of South Wales Police.
Throughout the day local CID and Neighbourhood Policing teams were supported by Territorial Support Teams, Roads Policing, and Dog Handlers.
ANPR activities resulted in 5 arrests, 3 vehicle seizures, and over 40 hits for other offences including no road tax and no vehicle insurance.
The arrests were in relation to a range of offences, including car crime, assaults, house burglaries and robbery.
The operation built upon last week’s positive crime performance, with almost 14,000 less victims of crime across the force this year compared to 2008/09. In Central BCU crime decreased by 10.8%, with equates to 5 less victims of crime per day on average.
In Central Division which covers the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend crime has fallen by 10.8 per cent which means there were around 38 fewer victims of crime each week on average last year.
Detective Inspector Jason Redrup, who led the operation, said: “We are committed to making Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan a very uncomfortable place for those people involved in criminal activity, and Monday’s operation delivered a strong message that we will relentlessly pursue criminals.”
“The arrests made are part of our continued efforts to increase detection rates for all crimes, ensuring those guilty of criminal activity are brought to justice. During the last year Central BCU has improved detections by 2.2%, and we want to continue improving on this.”
Chief Inspector Steve Jones said: “The operation was a great example of local and HQ resources working together to tackle crime, and has made a significant contribution to Keeping South Wales Safe.
“We will continue to work with our communities and partners to prevent and tackle crime across the division.
Neighbourhood police officers have been visiting the areas where arrests were made, speaking to local residents, keeping them informed of the operation and offering crime prevention advice.
