Operation Scramble

On Sunday 13th May 2012 Operation Scramble was carried out in Neath,Glynneath and Pontardawe sectors. This was as a joint exercise to tackle Off Road Vehicles targeting Forestry areas.
Neighbourhood Policing Teams from Neath, Glynneath and Pontardawe sectors all took part in the event along with Forestry Crime Officer Andy Scourfield and Divisional RAFT team also known as the Off Road Bike Team.
The exercise took place from 11.00am until 5.00pm during which all areas were covered and patrolled. Forestry entrance and exit points and area which had a history of being abused by Off Road Vehicles were given attention.
As a result of the operation 4 persons were seen driving off road vehicles in forestry areas. All drivers were caught and issued with Section 59 Warnings for driving the vehicles and then escorted from the area.
Overall this was a successful operation in which positive action was taken against offending persons.The offenders were educated about their offences and the issues off road vehicles present to members of the public. Visits were made to members of the public who regularly contact the Police to report these matters. These persons were thanked for their vigilance and reminded that a strong Police presence is out in the area tackling the issue.
