Treorchy
ward covers
Treorchy started as an agricultural area but with the discovery of coal in the Rhondda Valley it became an industrial town. Today Treorchy is classed as a village however, still having the characteristics of a town. Treorchy is home to the Parc and Dare Brass Band and the Treorchy Male Voice Choir. Treorchy is famous for the Park and Dare Theatre based at the heart of the community. It was built in 1913 and was funded by the Park and Dare collieries, they donated ‘penny in the pound.’ The Parc and Dare Theatre is still a popular venue for productions to show their work. It is also famous for hosting the National Eisteddfod in 1928, the only time a national event has been held in the Rhondda.
