St. Athan ward covers

St. Athan stretches from the edge of Rhoose to Llantwit Major and as far as St. Mary Church near Cowbridge. It is a large rural area, bordered on one side by the sea and the pretty village of Gileston. On the other side is the large town of Llantwit Major, open farmland and smaller villages. Nearby is the picturesque and historic village of Flemingstone. St. Athan is home to the RAF and the Army with a large base at the centre of the community. The village of St. Athan has a thriving primary school, several shops, 2 public houses, a library, community centre and a church. At East Vale, the eastern side of St. Athan, "The New Gathering Place" has recently been built and is a focal meeting place for the community. The team consists of PC Jamie Williamson and PCSO Lynda Fraser. There is good community spirit with the Community Council taking an active role. St. Athan is a low crime area with PACT working well within the community.

Speeding Throughout St. Athan
The road in question is Cowbridge Road joining Gileston Road running into St Athan village. It has a 30 mph restriction. It has a large dip in it locally known as ‘Beggars Pound’. Concern has been raised from local residents that drivers are using the road ‘like a race track’ especially during the evenings and along ‘Beggars Pound’.
