- >> Speed Camera Operations (ongoing) - 20/02/2010
From PC 4777 LLOYD
A number of our Special Constables (volunteer police officers) have been trained up to use the speed cameras.
They will be assisting us to tackle speeding issues and have already started using the cameras to target speeding motorists in the problem areas across Sandfields (East & West) and Aberavon.
Today (20/02/2010), Special Constables conducted a speed check operation and issued the following:
ONE Endorsable Fixed Penalty for Excess Speed (*|*60 fine & 3 points on driving licence),
FOUR official Notices of Warning for Excess Speed.
ONE requirement to produce driving documents at a police station.
Special Constables are unpaid volunteers who give their valuable spare time to assist the full time police service.
Their assistance is very much appreciated

- >> Speed exercise with local school pupils - 19/01/2010
Today Sandfields West Neighbourhood Policing Team attend Tir Morfa School conducting a speed camera scoping exercise with the Year 2 and Year 5 pupils. 24 vehicles were recorded and the average speed on the road was 15 MPH. The children enjoyed the afternoon session learning about the Highway Code and the exercise fitted in well with what they are learning about ‘road safety’. Hopefully this will make people driving past the school think about their speed whilst driving.
- >> Speeding - 14/01/2010
From PCSO Gemma Tarling:-
There have been no reports of speeding in the area over the past seven days.
The weather conditions have been treacherous and vehicles have slowed down considerably.
Once the weather conditions improve, we will be organizing another speeding operation in the area to further target drivers, possibly with the local school children helping with scoping exercises.
