Road Furniture Issue (signs/lights)

Date of Meeting: 23/08/2010
Meeting: Cardiff University Studnet Union, Senghenydd Rd
Location of Concern:
Cathays
Summary: Those attending the PACT meetings have repeatedly expressed concern about the 'To Let' signs being permanently left on the outside of houses in Cathays. Cathays councillors have been working with the University and the police to resolve this issue on a voluntary basis with the landlords. Progress is being made and we hope to have some further information about an agreement on the signs by the next PACT meeting.

>> Progress on the 'to let' sign boards in Cathays - 22/06/2010
  • Kieran McCann (Student Liaison Officer) gave a presentation to the PACT meeting held on 21/06/10 on the work he’s undertaking to try to get the ‘to let’ boards banned in Cathays. He has completed a survey o the entire area and mapped the ‘to let’ boards, which confirms the problems as there are huge numbers of them. He has been consulting with ALMA (the landlords association) and they have voluntarily agreed to remove their signs. A further mapping exercise in underway to see if there has been a significant improvement in the area. Kieran will then take the matter to WAG to legally oblige landlords and letting agents to remove the signs.
>> 'To Let' Signs - 02/06/2010
New rules are due to come in force this summer putting the onus on landlords and letting agencies to remove 'to let' signs from their properties when the property has no vacancies.
