McDonalds, Water Steet.
Summary: Vehicles are turning right on to Water Street as they are leaving McDonalds.

I have made regular patrols passed the junction this week and I have not seen any vehicles turning right at the junction

PCSO Richard Jones and I have been patrolling the area regularly and we have not witnessed any vehicles turning right at the junction.

I issued a fixed penalty today at 4:20pm, to the driver of a vehicle for turning right from McDonalds on to Water Street.

From PC Richard George:-

At 8:15am today I witnessed a vehicle turning right out of McDonalds on to Water Street and that the driver was using a mobile phone.

On stopping the vehicle it was ascertained that the driver was the holder of a provisional licence and that the vehicle had a defective tyre.

The vehicle was seized and the driver reported for the offences disclosed.

I have carried out regular patrols in the area and have not witnessed any vehicles turning right out of McDonalds.

Whilst on general patrol in the Aberavon area today (1//6) I witnessed a driver turning right out of Mconalds on to Water Street.

I stopped the vehicle and issued the driver with a fixed penalty notice.

Regular patrols have been made in the area by myself during the last week and I have not seen any vehicles turning right out of McDonalds.

I will continue to carry out regular patrols in the area.

This matter was discussed with traffic management officers at today's Roads Policing Group meeting.

They advised me that they had recently added a painted island at this location which is meant to prevent vehicles turning right on to Water Street.

They will continue to monitor the location and if necessary they will place a permanent physical island at the entrance.

I patrolled the Mcdonalds area this morning and did not witness any vehicles contravening the road signs.

Further patrols will be conducted throughout the day.

Today we paid periodic attention to McDonalds and did not witness any vehicles contravening the road signs.

Action plan to resolve this issue:-

1.We will liaise with the councillors to see if the Local Authority can evaluate the signage at the location and consider the possibility of placing measures at the location to prevent cars from turning right

2. The Neighbourhood Policing team will carry out patrols of the area

Conclusion

What we did
Regular patrols have been made to the location and a number of drivers were issued with fixed penalty notices for turning right at the location. The local authority are now arranging for a permanent traffic island at the location, which will prevent vehicles from turning right at the location.
