Vehicle Nuisance/Inappropriate Vehicle Use

Summary: Joy riders in the car park at Ocean View, late at night most nights during the summer, drinking, litter, nose etc.

PC Ian Ranford a member of the Sandfields East neighbourhood team had occassion to seize one moped and gave another bike a section 59 warning in the Sandfields area today..

From PCSO's Gemma Tarling and Craig Singleton:-

We carried out patrols in the area tonight and there were no issues to report.

We had locked the gates to the car park to prevent vehicles entering.

Today the mounted section of the Police attended our local comprehensive school with their horses and then conducted patrols in the area.

They visited Ocean Way and the beach front and did not witness anny issues during their patrols.

Patrols conducted tonight with no problems identified. There were plenty of cars in the area but none of which were causing any issues 

The Sandfields neighbourhood policing team, commercial vehicles and VOSA have agreed on a few dates over the next month or so when we will be carrying out operations in the area.

We will be targeting these vehicles during the operations.

The Sandfields and Aberavon NPT have been helping  to lock and unlock the Ocean Way gates. 

We are working in partnership with the Council Wardens to lock the gates at night and re-open them in the morning.

During the ast week with the glorious weather the car park has been in constant use during the day time. There have been no reports of anti social use of vehicles in the evening time.

Should we get a report or if we do see any vehicles causing problems we will lock the gates.

The council have also got keys and so we will work together to make sure the gates are locked and opened each day.

Patrols of the beach front and Ocean Way car park carried out. Car park was very busy throughout the day with persons using the car park to attend the beach. In the evening car park was again busy but with no vehicles witnessed acting in an anti social manner. Patrols carried out by PCSO SINGLETON and PCSO TARLING.

PCSO TARLING has conducted a leaflet drop of Ocean Way and Neath Port Talbot CCTV operators have been briefed regarding the problem.

We are in the process of trying to establish an efficient way to manage the locking/unlocking of the gates.

PCSO SINGLETON and I patrolled the car park and surrounding streets today (15/05/2010) with no problems to report.

Special Constables assisted the Sandfields & Aberavon Neighbourhood Team over the weekend by conducting speed checks at problem locations as follows:

Tir Morfa Road - average speed 28 mph

Princess Margaret Way - average speed 20 mph

Wyvern Avenue - no traffic flow whilst officers were in attendance.

Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers and give up their spare time to work as Police Officers.  I'd like to thank Special Constable BATER and her team.for their assistance.  They will be back conducting more speed checks soon.

The following actions will be carried out by the Sandfields West Neighbourhood Policing Team in respect of this priority:-

1. We need to resolve the issue with locking the gates to this car park at night. I am in posession of the keys and will speak to the Local Authority to work out a system for the opening and closing of the gates.

2. Operation Snapper will be run throughout the summer and will target this area. Vehicles will be checked during mutli agency operations.

3. A leaflet drop will be carried out on Ocean Way, providing contact details, ASB diaries and questionaires.

4. We will ask CCTV to monitor the area and report any issues to us.   

Conclusion

What we did
We have patrolled the area regularly and have spoken to the drivers of vehicles and provided appropriate advice.
