>> Speed gun operation - 19/08/2010

From PCSO's Sally Thomas and Lian Gittus:-

We have carried out speed gun operations on Main Road, Cadoxton in response to the PACT priority raised by local residents. 

These took place on 17th, 18th and 19th August 2010, during the busiest times of the day. 

During this period we monitored the speed of over three hundred vehicles and those found to be exceeding the speed limit will be sent warning letters. <

From PCSO Sally Thomas. On Sunday 8th August from 2pm myself and a Traffic Police Officer conducted an operation to monitor the speed of vehicles travelling through Main Road. Cadoxton. During this time one vehicle was caught driving in excess of the speed limit. The driver was stopped and a warning was issued. Also another person was witnessed using a mobile phone whilst driving. This resulted in a £60 fine and 3 points on their license. Appropriate advice was given regarding the dangers of driving whilst using a mobile phone.

From PCSO Sally Thomas.  I have been in contact with the Neath Port Talbot Council and requested that a speed monitor be placed at location.  On Saturday 31st July 2010 at 15:00hrs myself and PCSO Lian Gittus carried out a speed gun operation on Main Road, Cadoxton. We monitored the speed of 80 vehicles.  The lowest speed was 17 mph and the maximum 34mph.  2 vehicles were recorded exceeding the speed limit so warning letters to be issued.

During the last PACT meeting residents expressed concerns of the speed of traffic going through the village.  Over the next 2 months Skewen Neighbourhood Policing Team will carry out the following actions:

1. Arrange an operation with Roads Traffic Police.

2. Carry out several Speed gun operations using the hand held speed gun.

3. Regular patrols to be carried out at location.

4. Work with the Council and request a speed monitor to be placed at location.

5. Work with local Councillors.
