Cardiff's Top Cop
Hello and welcome to my latest blog,
I have said for some time that the community of
Cardiff should know that they live in one of the safest Cities in
Europe.
Police in
Cardiff, with their partners are making massive improvements to the city as well as driving down crime figures.
We have already built firm foundations and will always retain a ‘can do’ attitude.
As you know, overall crime is down in
Cardiff with 4,411 less victims in 2009/2010 compared with 2008/2009.
The figures are in for April and May of this year and they show a continuing downward trend, reflecting a further decrease of 1,040 less victims
House burglaries in
Cardiff are down by 19%.
In-fact recently the city went three days without a single burglary - a massive achievement for a city with a population of 330,000 plus 40,000 students.
Vehicle crime was historically a major problem; we have again reversed this trend and witnessed a 32% reduction last year adding to the previous 30% reduction the year before.
Anti Social Behaviour is down by 25% compared with last year and is decreasing by the day.
Staff numbers at
Cardiff have now been increased to full capacity which is something that we have not seen for over decade.
We have achieved this by working very closely with our partners on a range of issues.
Cardiff is in an envious position of having excellent strategic partners at the Local Authority, Health, Education and a host of other areas. We are more than prepared for the challenges that lie ahead having built excellent relationships and even co-locating in various areas of business. We took a huge risk in sharing funds but have found that this has paid off enormously. As partners we no longer duplicate each others work, we identify the relevant issues and agree a joint protocol to tackle the problems together.
We are determined to be the best at listening to the needs of our community and responding to those needs.
My plea now is to the entire community of
Cardiff and our many visitors - be proud of the City and feel safe.
