Northern Twitter Account
South Wales Police’s Northern Division, which covers Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr, has its own Twitter account (@swpnorth).
IMPORTANT: Please don’t report crime or incidents on Twitter. Contact south Wales Police via non emergency number 101, or dial 999 in an emergency.
This account is managed by a member of South Wales Police’s Corporate Communications team, but is maintained by a number of people from a variety of roles across our business. This is to ensure followers receive regular, dynamic updates, which are informative and interesting.
Tweet IDs
Contributors tag all their tweets with their unique hashtag ID. This enables you to search and find only certain updates. An index of contributors and their IDs can be found above, together with a photograph of that contributor

If you follow the account, you can expect between 10 and 20 daily tweets which:
- Keep you updated about opportunities to meet with officers
- Provide details of arrests and convictions
- Appeal for help with investigations
- Signpost news updates and interesting information to followers
- Link followers to other content on the web
- Retweet / link to and from other organisations and individuals
Our Twitter policy
If you follow us on Twitter we will not automatically follow you back. We place importance upon our role to signpost other agencies and organisations relevant to our work to our followers - our rationalised ‘following’ list helps facilitate this. There are occasions when we may follow individuals, but this does not imply endorsement of any kind.
Availability
We will update and monitor our Twitter account as often as we can.
However, most updates will be posted during the peak usage times - when followers, and our own staff, are most active. This is between 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday.
Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.
@Replies and Direct Messages
We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers. However, we are not always able to reply individually to the messages and comments we receive via Twitter.
We will read @replies and will ensure that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people and responded to wherever possible.
Our aim is to respond to individuals within 48 hours, however at times, for example during weekends, this may not be possible.
The usual ways of contacting us for official correspondence are detailed in the contact us section of our website.
Hashtags (#)
We are not responsible for the hashtag or tweets from other users who use the hashtag. We do not endorse other users who use the hashtag and we are not responsible for the content that they write.
