Kingsbridge
ward covers
Kingsbridge (Welsh: Pontybrenin), is a village and electoral ward in the City and County of Swansea, Kingsbridge is a mainly rural ward but it also has a scattering of industrial areas. The ward is bordered by Gowerton, Cockett and Penderry to the south; Gorseinon and Penllergaer to the north and Upper Loughor to the west.
The settlement of Kingsbridge grew up around the area's numerous collieries and tinplate works. The area was largely undeveloped until the turn of the 20th Century, when the Bryngwyn Works was opened. By 1914, the construction of Garden Village had commenced.
In more recent times, Kingsbridge has seen expansion in terms of housing developments, most recently on the site of the Cae Duke Colliery, which was re-developed to provide modern housing in 1998.
